As you probably know, every year we have our Magic 80’s prom in Spring at it’s always a blast! This year it’s going to be at The Royal Oak Music Theatre May 23rd.
And this year, to make sure EVERYBODY can get a ticket, we have two ways for you to join us:
1. Listen to Magic in the morning and then all day at work…we’re giving away a ton of tickets.
2. Since we all deserve a night out, but times are tough, you can BUY tickets for only $10.50 each! Go to The Royal Oak Music Theatre box office or www.tickets.com
It’ll be a great night out with John Waite (”Missing You”) who was lead singer for The Babys and Bad English. Cash bar and stylists from Michael Angelo Salon will be on hand for so last minute 80’s hair-help (or you can make an appointment and have it done before the party.
We’ll be giving away cool Magic prizes for the best 80’s costumes…either Prom clothes or just the stuff we wore back then.
There are a of places to buy vintage wear around town, but if you need help with the clothing, go see our friend Heidi at Cinderella’s Attic. She’s right behind the Blockbuster video on Old Woodward on a side street called Frank.
She has vintage Prom dresses starting at $9.95 and I found a cool Member’s only jacket there. (It may have been the one I originally owned!)
The Magic 80’s Prom is going to be a lot of fun, and this year we’ve made it an inexpensive night out so everyone can forget about the economy, gas prices, politics and just have some fun.
Bring some friends, and don’t forget your camera!

Mike Bradley is always bragging about his fishing…and I have to say he really proved he’s the master with this 19 inch bass he caught in the lake by his house. Check out this monster!

But later that day…the fish got even.

I had the pleasure of taking my bride out for dinner Saturday to celebrate her birthday. Here’s a shot of us leaving the house, paparazzi-style!

I’m such a lucky guy.
And now for something completely different…
GUESS THE TATTOO!
They are all on members of The Magic Morning Show. We had this up for a week and had The Magic Family (you) guess who owned each tattoo. Nobody got them all right!
Here’s our first:

That’s Fay’s belly-tat…a lot of people got this one right.
Here’s #2

This is on my right forearm…many of you have seen this one when we’ve been out on shows.
Here’s #3

That’s Mike’s tribute to his Dad who was a Marine paratrooper
Here’s #4

This is on my right upper arm. It’s about 21 years old.
And finally, the last one (and if anybody guessed “Mike”, I’m gonna be real mad!)

Obviously, this is my favorite…on my left upper arm, closest to my heart.
That’s a lot of ink for one morning show. Hope you had fun guessing.

We welcome some new members to The Magic Family….
One of our engineers (who you’ve probably met on one of our live shows) Sherri Powers, is fostering her three nephews:
Aiden 2months

Leland 2 1/2 yrs old

and Cullavey, 6yrs old with Jasper who’s 8.

Ya gotta love these kids! And Sherri’s warm heart is a part of what makes our station Magic. Keep a good thought for them all, please.

Lynn and I just got back from a weekend up North to our favorite city, Petoskey.
Gotta love those Up North sunsets…even in winter.

Does this hat make my head look big(ger)? City Park Grill…one of our favs. Great cheese biscuits!…mmmmm cheese!

My lovely bride, Lynn just north of downtown Petoskey.

Here’s what Little Traverse Bay looks like in the summer…

Here’s the Bay last week…

With all of our problems here in Michigan, it’s still a good feeling to get out and remember what a wonderful place this is to live.
It was great to get away for a few days and relax…always good to be back home with The Magic family.

We had dinner recently with Fay and her husband Chris to talk about this year’s Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk. ( I think the four of us ate 20 lbs of steak.)
Lynn and Fay are coming up with some really great ideas to make it even more Magical.
Check out Fay’s blog to learn more.

Every week I get emails, phone calls and letters from people who’ve fought or are fighting cancer and winning.
In one way or another.
This blog page is for you to tell your story.
How you did it, or how you are doing it right now.
The fight, the struggle, the good and bad days.
Others fighting cancer will be inspired by your courage.
The rest of us will better understand your struggle, and learn how we can help.
Plus, the Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk is coming up and your story will also do a lot to inspire people to walk.
Just click on “comments” below and tell us about your fight.
It will be my honor to read it and share it with The Magic Family.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who submitted a love story. It was fun to hear how people end up together and I hope for anyone who’s been lonely lately, they ended up with some HOPE that it’s never too late, you’re never too young or too old and anything, no matter how small it seems at the time, can lead to a change that may mean sharing your life with someone who brings you peace and love. Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.

Even if you think you know which candidate suits you best, check out this website that allows you to weigh-in on this issues, click a button and then it will tell you which candidate, based on their opinions and platforms, best matches up with yours.
It’s interesting, you shouldn’t base something as important as your vote on it alone, but we’ve had a lot of response on this. Here it is:
http://www.vajoe.com/candidate_calculator.html
After I saw the results for myself, it became obvious thatI’ve got to do more research on ALL of the candidates.
Check it out,

Here’s a couple of questions many businesses don’t often ask you:
What are we doing right?
And more importantly: What are we doing wrong?
I appreciate your feedback as I always have. It’s the backbone of what makes Magic your station.
Unlike other blog pages, I will NOT be posting your comments. So you can feel free to be as honest as you like, without anyone seeing your comments, except for me and my partners here at Magic.
It’ll also be interesting to see what you have to say, and then listen to how it improves Magic in 2008 as a result of your input.
Thanks again, have fun and blog-in as often as you like.

2007 has been one of the toughest years I can recall.
A lot of friends and family are gone.
Many people are having a hard time just getting by.
People want to work, pay their bills, see their kids do well, take care of aging parents, stay or get healthy themselves and see our state return to it’s rightful place of glory. After all, Michigan is our home. But it hasn’t been easy this year.
But I have to say that in one way, it’s been one of the most inspiring years of my life.
And we have you to thank.
I’ve watched you come out and support every charity and community event we’ve been a part of, and as most of you know, giving back is one of the main reasons we at Magic 105.1 come to work each day. We feel it’s our responsibility to be a positive force in Metro Detroit and we’re as passionate about it as we are about the music we play, the contests we provide, the support of our troops and their families here at home, the fun we have and the things we talk about.
But we get our inspiration from you…The Magic Family.
Thanks for sharing your most personal of thoughts on this blog.
Thanks for reminding us that people can survive anything, as long as they have a sense of community and family.
I know I speak for all of us at Magic when I say Thank You for allowing us into your homes, your cars, your offices and your lives.
We promise you we’ll try even harder in the New Year to serve you and with your help, make Magic a better radio station every single day.
Blessings to you and your family in the coming year, and here’s hoping we can turn this state around soon.
Peace,
-Jim

The annual Breast Cancer 3 Day took place the last weekend of September, and WOW! what a wonderful effort it was.
The following is a photo/journal of a humble husband. My wife Lynn and Fay Samona, the producer of The Magic Morning Show were part of our 200+ team “3 Days of Magic”. Our team raised over $400,000 dollars and set a record in the country for most money ever raised by one team…thanks to YOU!

Thanks again to all of our walkers on The 3 Days of Magic-Team, EVEYONE who walked on every team, the people who volunteered their time and efforts, all the friends and family who came out to cheer and the organizers of the 3 day Event who work so hard on making this a life changing experience. And a special thanks to Sandi Bourdeau our team captain, Kathy Keiper our spiritual advisor and close friend, and especially all the people who donated money to help these walkers raise so much money so that we can put an end to this terrible disease.
God Bless you all,
-Jim Harper

Many of us are lucky…we don’t need any help right now. For that we are grateful.
But it’s a kind and wise person that knows when you need help, you ask for it. When you can offer help, just do it.
I am always inspired by how many of you are involved in charity-related-projects. We try to plug as many of these events as we can on our show, and will continue to do so.
But often I hear myself reading off information about fun, thoughtful charity events and I know if you’re listening in your car, at home or even work you can’t always write down a phone number or a date and location of a charity event.
So this part of my blog will be set up to help promote any charity event you may be involved in, and people might find it easier to get the information and participate.
Just write about your event and don’t forget contact info (like email and phone numbers) as well as time, date and location. Just be sure it’s an event that helps a charity. You can put things like garage sales and requests for individual help on The Magic Classifieds page under “Helping Hands”. It’s on the opening home page of detroitmagic.com
Nobody wants a hand out, but many of us could use a helping-hand UP.

Here’s one that I think is very special, and a good example for you:
****There’s a group of Marines known as the Marine Reserve 1/24 who have been serving their country proudly in Iraq. You may have read about them in a special Detroit Free Press series “Band of Brothers” .
Diane Draugelis, a proud local mom of one of these brave guys wrote me to tell me they arrived home in April, and are planning to reunite for a Marine Ball on November 3rd. Unfortunately, tickets for this event are $50 and The Marines haven’t been able to raise as much money as they hoped to make this reunion happen. So, even though our Marines are prohibited from soliciting donation, Mom Diane has been working hard on trying to see that no Marine has to pay for a ticket to re-unite with their comrades. There is a way YOU and I can help: Anyone can send a donation, in ANY amount to 1st Sargent Taylor 27601 C Street Selfridge Air National Guard Base, MI 48045 Make your check out to “Marine Ball”
I’ll keep you posted on this one on the air as well…these men and women deserve a party and a chance to be with the people they risked their lives for, and counted on to stay alive and get back home to their families.
PLEASE CLICK ON “COMMENTS” BELOW TO READ OF OTHER GREAT CHARITY EVENTS THAT WILL BE GREAT FUN AND HELP PEOPLE IN NEED.

-It’s Stars-Guitars this Saturday, Oct. 27th at 6pm at The Macomb Center for the Performing Arts in Clinton Township. This year featuring Dennis DeYoung-The Music of Styx with a 32 piece symphony orchestra!
Strolling dinner, spectacular desserts, live and silent auctions and the most amazing collection of autographed celeb-guitars you’ll ever see, all up for auction. This is the annual fundraiser we talk about that Dr. Charles Main (Chief of Beaumont’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Dept.) started years ago with Richard and Debbie Astrein. They raise money for kids who’ve beaten cancer, but now have little or no money for college due to the huge fiancial burden on their family’s savings. It always a good time and you can get tickets and info by visiting www.starsguitars.com or by calling 248-551-9887
-St. Dennis School is presenting their 32nd annual “Christmas Village Arts and Crafts Show”, Saturday Nov 3rd from 9am-4pm. Food concessions available and it’s only $2. All proceeds benefit the students of St. Dennis. The school is at the corner of 12 mile and Stephenson Hwy in Royal Oak. For info, call the school at 248-398-6555.
