Magic Moments: A Daily Dose of Heaven

June 30th, 2009

Energy flows where attention goes!

Wise words indeed! I believe they came from a genius of past times, yet it was my friend Heidi who reminded me of this natural law. As I sit in the middle of my own expansion process, I asked for Heavens version of these wise words….

Sunrise….Sunset
Tip-toe through the tulips
Love your life and live your days. Be you, be all of you. Never let any part of you to be taken for granted. You are all the Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. You are all the birds that fly and the trees that sway in the wind. You are all beauty and Spirit, body and mind. You are all connected and one with each other. Allow your fullness to come forth. Allow your entire being to expand in its greatness, to experience the vast open and infinite world which you live and breathe in. Honor all that you are and walk in that Truth always. You should never fear or worry for your wellbeing, you are always supported, guided and provided for this lifetime and beyond. You will only know that which is for your best, the rest you come across is ā€œicing on the cakeā€.
Feel and know who you are and allow that always unfolding in its own time. Patience is your key always while you are in the human body, as it will be your savior in all situations.
Believe in all that you are!
Believe in all that you have come to do!
Believe in the many ways you can walk through this lifetime!
And always know and believe that you are Love and loved fully, completely, unconditionally now and forever more! Many blessings to you all, abundance and prosperity are yours always and in all ways!

Magic Moments: Michael Jackson and Me

June 26th, 2009

carolyn-headshot11michael-jackson3As a young teen…and well into my 20s…it would be accurate to say that I was ā€˜obsessed’ with Michael Jackson. Yes, I admit it. And everyone who knew me also knew it. I adored everything about him. His electrifying dance moves. His tender singing voice. His mesmerizing stage presence. The pure joy he exuded, as well as elicited in me, when he performed.

My dream back then was to meet him…and my dream came true during a trip to New York City in the late 1970s with three college friends. I had walked outside of the New York Hilton hotel and all of a sudden, in a ā€˜magic moment’ that will forever be etched in my memory, my college roommate raced into an already occupied compartment in the revolving door leading in and out of the hotel and screamed ā€œRoomie…Michael Jackson’s in there!ā€

I ran back inside and there he was, surrounded by a swarm of people. I knew this was my once in a lifetime chance. I nervously approached him, and while the details of our encounter are a bit fuzzy because my head was spinning and my heart was pounding, I do remember him telling me that he was going to be in the movie version of The Wiz and me replying that I had loved the play. As luck (fate?) would have it, I had one picture left on the roll of film in my camera (no digital cameras in those days), and he graciously agreed to pose for a photo with my Roomie and I.

As the years passed, I would occasionally take the photo out of my treasured mementos and smile somewhat sadly, thinking about how young, innocent, handsome and ā€˜normal’ Michael Jackson looked in this photo. I’ve often wondered why he felt so compelled to alter his physical appearance so drastically (some would say freakishly) as an adult. Clearly, fame, fortune and fans by the millions could not fill up whatever internal insecurities he possessed or inner demons he battled.

Yesterday, the world was stunned to learn he had died. Over the next few days and weeks, people will be commenting continuously about Michael Jackson’s tumultuous life and debating the true cause of his untimely death.

And me?

I plan to focus on the famous black and white audition tape recorded in the basement of Motown’s Hitsville USA in Detroit showcasing his pure dancing prowess as a boy. I will replay his unforgettable moonwalk across the stage during the 1983 Motown 25 TV special in my mind (an event that will surely go down as one of the biggest, blockbuster, ā€˜OMG - did you see that’ moments in television entertainment).

And I will gaze with great affection at the photo of Michael Jackson with his arm around me. He seems happy, relaxed, at ease and comfortable. I pray that he can finally reclaim and remember his true self now that his soul is unburdened by the physical body that, for him, seemed to be both a blessing and a burden.

Magic Moments- In The Moment

June 24th, 2009

Lately, I’ve thought about how much of my day is spent either thinking about my past or my goals for the future, and how little of it is spent in the right now.

I compare spending my time in the past to ā€˜looking in the rear view mirror’. If you try to drive looking behind you, there is no doubt you will crash. Likewise, focusing on what coulda, woulda and shoulda been… is depressing and useless. There is almost nothing that I can do with the past except learn from it, and then it is my responsibility to move forward with that knowledge and do something different or better the next time.

I’ve realized the future is out of my reach. The outcome is out of my hands. I noticed that the best things happen when I make a plan and follow through on it. As simple as it seems, I make a list of my Plan for the Day and tediously go through it. That way, my overwhelming list of to-do’s doesn’t get out of control. What I can’t do, I have learned to delegate, knowing it won’t be my version of perfect.

I encourage you to join me as I try to live in the moment.
I always hated that ā€˜stop and smell the roses’ concept. Maybe that is sappy, but it’s true. It’s those little things we miss in the moment while we are busy looking in the past or the future.

If there was no tomorrow, what would you do right now? I am going to choose contentment; let go of expectation; forgive a wrongdoing; see something in a new way; live in this moment and find a way to make a difference.

Magic Moments: Susie In-Session

June 21st, 2009

Ā

Ā

Ā ā€œWhat lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within usā€- Emerson

Ā

NAMASTE

In yoga, each class is concluded with hands held together at ones heart with the reciting of the word Namaste. Namaste is a Sanskrit word that essentially means ā€œthe light in me bows to the light in youā€. The implication of this word is that we are all one.

Regardless if you partake in yoga or not, the concept of reciting Namaste is truly something to consider towards creating positive mental health. At a practical level, it implies that we each possess a divine spark of light within ourselves, and serves as a reminder of our self worth and value. Furthermore, the concept of Namaste implies that you honor the light in those around you. However, in various negative situations that we all experience in life, it is often difficult to remember our own worth as well as that of other people we encounter. For example, issues surrounding money, marriage, parenting, guilt, and blame are all profoundly capable of challenging our significance, and our feelings and perceptions of those we interact with.

Ā Low self esteem and feelings of lack contribute to the difficulty in remembering that our value is far beyond anything that happens TO us. It is frequently common to forget our inherent value when we struggle with life stressors. Remembering the meaning of Namaste is a reminder of the true magnitude of what is INSIDE each of us, and further reminds us to not lose sight of the importance of others. Namaste is a tool that additionally allows us to refrain from judgment about ourselves and others as it reminds us that despite outward appearances and actions, spiritually speaking, we have a place within each of us that is good.

Ā

On a practical level, yoga has tremendous value for achieving positive mental health:

*Anxiety can be decreased as a result of breathingĀ Ā  and the effects of yoga on the nervous system.

*Depression can be alleviated as it decreases stress and creates a peaceful state of mind.

*Cognitive thinking is addressed as many classes are enhanced with positive verbal messages from the teacher.

*Exercise, to the degree that it occurs in various yoga classes, is known to contribute to positive mental health as endorphins are increased.

*Substance abuse issues are currently being addressed in certain yoga class as a tool for recovery.

Whatever challenges you may experience, it would be a valuable skill to simply reflect for a moment and breathe… and remember that although it may not always appear to be…. We are all connected.

NAMASTE
