The Value of Great Fathers

Happy father’s day to all of the wonderful dads all over Metro Detroit.  Dad’s who get up in the middle of night for  everything from dirty diapers to “monsters” in the closet.  I for one feel that men don’t get enough credit for their parental contributions.   It seems to be the norm to see men in commercials and TV shows that are incompetent…so I just want to salute all GREAT dads.  My father was a wonderful man.  I’m so happy that I can say that.  He had the best sense of humor, there was always a way that he could make me laugh.  He also was  great listener…..I really miss being able to use him as a sounding board.   I still “talk” to him, and in my mind I think I know how he’d answer.   He gave me a college education and tons of material things, even a  car(although it was bright ORANGE so that you could spot it from a mile away! …..but the best “gift” he ever gave me was the gift of his time…of himself.   Thanks to all of you great dads…..your gift is priceless!

Like you Mitzi, I “talk” to my Dad occasionally too. Although he passed away in February 2006, it seems as though it was yesterday, and I miss him tremendously. He too provided me with the many things you mention, a college education, my first car (a ‘78 Camaro…no, it wasn’t orange), and other material things. He bestowed on me many great traits that he possessed, and I’m proud to be able to say that I turned out just like him. I want my 2 kids to value and appreciate me as a Dad as much as I always will value my time with my Dad, and I’m convinced they will. Being a Dad is wonderful, and I do think that we’re often under-appreciated. Happy Father’s Day Dad, and thank you!
