I also do Weight Watchers (this is my second time around). This time I am dedicated to making it a lifestyle change and NOT A DIET. I have currently lost 24 lbs and feel great. The key I found is better choices, smaller portions and a picture of what I use to look like on the refrigerator. Good luck and stick with it. We didn't gain the weight overnight so we can't expect to keep it off without doing it slowly.

Thanks Karen, The picture is s great idea...and you are so right...slow and steady will keep it off!

Mitzi,

Let's see...I've been on some kind of diet for somewhere around 30 years now. I've lost and gained, and lost and gained, and lost and gained!

The answer is simple in theory: Less calories in...and more burnt up with exercise. I'm at an age that I should be concerned with health issues, if nothing else.

What I also know to be true, is that a permanent lifestyle change is due...not just some quick fix.

I think support of co-workers, family, and friends is very helpful...but ultimately, the responsibility is our own. I also think that we shouldn't give up when we think we've blown it on any given day.

So, with those great words of wisdom, I wish Good Luck to all of you! And, I'll start my lifesytle change this evening...or tomorrow morning...no, no...this evening, for sure!

One trick that always works...use a salad plate or small plate for your meals.
NO reills.

Trust the Weight Watcher system - it is the best!!

Get out and move - walk, dance, ride your bike, weed the garden - anything that makes you "work up a sweat" - it gets your heart rate up and burns calories!!!

Hi Mitzi,
I own a (name deleteted) Weight Loss and Nutrition Center in Marysville. I sell vitamins, herbs and weight loss supplements along with weight loss programs and all my clients have great success. I personally have lost a total so far of 110 lbs. We guarantee at least 2 lbs a week at Herbal Magic and most clients lose more than that. Even though the programs work differently (I have done WW also)they all hopefully have the same end result-we lose weight. Anyway the advice I give my clients is to NEVER go to any parties or functions hungry. Try to find out what they are serving without being rude of course. But if that info is not available then eat some veggies, protein, fruit or even a dairy before going. That way you wont be starving and setting yourself up for failure and will help you stay on track. Even though you can eat anything you want with WW as long as you have the points why waste the points on bad foods that will just bog you down later. Summer is a great time to lose weight with all the fresh veggies and fruit but ALL THE PARTIES!!! YIKES, that can kill anyone's success quickly. Well, Mitzi I hope this helps you or anyone else trying to lose weight. I know it works for me. It's like MAGIC!!! Have a great day and success!!!

Joyce

Joyce, That's a great tip...I think for anytime. If I am hungry that's all I can think about......I think snacking might be the key to my weight loss...the right snacks of course! Thanks for your help and encouragement! Mitzi

Thsi is what was told to me,
Put your fork down between every
bite and take a sip of water. The slower you eat the more your stomach catches up with your brain to say that you are full. Then at the end of your meal have one small piece of very dark chocolate like hersey kiss size. That will train your brain that the meal is over

Sandi, I don't know if I could do that....but I will give it a try! Thanks, Mitzi

I think I was born on a diet. I have to say that about 20 years ago I will say that I was huge,I'll leave the weight numbers out, uncomfortable, embarrassed, no self esteem etc. Went to the Doctor and was put on a diet with diet pills. It was a jump start for me, but I had to get off those pills, not a good pill taker but needed the help. But the pills have their side effects which I did not like. So I stopped them and proceeded on my own and over about 2 and a half years lost 110 lbs. Stayed pretty steady then in the last 4 years bought a treadmill which I am attached to daily, when I miss a day I know it. I toned up real well and lost inches. With in the last 6 months I have combined the treadmill and watching what goes on the fork into the mouth and have lost 25 more lbs and more toning. Why is it though those last 20-30 pounds just dont want to come off? If I can get those off I will have reached my goal finally after many years of riding the roller coaster of my own. It is such a self gratifying thing to accomplish and applaud all who have had great success. One thing I found is when having bad spells where you gain or nothing happens you cant give up,thats when you get tougher but within reason. We only live once and it would be nice to not have a life long battle of the bulge but theres worse things we could be battling. Two very very important things I did learn is you dont drag out the scale daily or three times a day. Sure its nice to weigh yourself within reason, but you will feel success in your body and in your clothes. I only threw two scales away in all my years, I didnt like the numbers and thought the scale was broke. No they were not because when I went to buy the new ones the numbers were the same. LOLL!! Second is you dont starve yourself throws your motabolism way off. So good luck to us all, its not easy but but its part of LIfe and Life is not easy!! Good Luck To All!!!!

You are so right about NOT starving yourself....I have made that mistake..and I'm trying to improve on food choices. I don't do well....physically or emotionally when I feel hungry! Mitzi

I agree with everyone who responded to your question. Doing something for better health is much more fulfilling than for any other reason. Learn the difference between physical hunger and psychological hunger; remember it takes your brain 20 minutes to realize you are full, so slow down; eat at a dinner table not in front of the TV; exercise but do something you like to do and start slow so you will continue; drink plenty of water - not only will it flush out toxins but it will make you feel full; and last but not least, get and give support to those who are attempting lifestyle changes - it truly helps!

Pam, You bring up a good point about the exercise...I agree that you have to do something you like. I have never enjoyed standing in a class doing the same repititive things. I do love riding bikes with my daughter, we can talk, race and have fun...and I can check out others homes for landscaping ideas too! Mitzi

Hi Mitzi,
I wrote in the other day and I was the one that recommended eating something before going to a gathering or party so you don't get off track because we all know it is so hard to get back on. But I also wanted to add that if you are really hungry, eat an extra protein. The protein will give you more energy, speed up your metabolism naturally and break down the fats and carbohydrates so you lose more weight and faster. So, if you feel really hungry, don't starve - EAT protein. And yes, you have to get the water in. It will flush out all the fat you are losing and toxins. I recommend 64-80 oz. a day. Have a great day!!

Joyce

Joyce, I know you are right about the water but honestly, I can't get that much in me per day! If I did I would be up all night if you catch my drift! Also, yes the protein makes a great difference! You know what youa re talking about girl! Thanks, Mitzi

Hi Mitzi,
Yes I know it's hard to get all that water in but try. I had a hard time at first also. Take baby steps and each day set a small goal to increase the water intake by 8 oz. or even 4 oz. Yes, you may run to the potty during the night but that will subside once your body realizes that you are going to continue to nourish it with water. Plus just think how much fat you are flushing out thru the night, that is a great thing. Water is the "magic" potion for permanent weight loss. It helps with fluid retention and stored water is lost. Believe it or not, to get rid of excess water you must drink more water. Not to mention all the other great things water does for us. So just set little goals within the big goals, even with the weight loss. It makes the long journey so much easier and once you've reached one small goal, you can set another one and reward yourself with small things through the journey (just not with food!!). Before you know it you'll be at your goal weight and drinking at least 64 oz. water. I promise it will work and you will stop being up all night - if you get my drift! LOL. That's how I got to my goal and lost 115 lbs.!! YOU CAN DO IT! Good luck and I'm here for you too!

Joyce
Joyce, Wow......I'm impressed and you certainly have earned the right to advise! Congratulations to you. Mitzi

Hi Mitzi,
I was wondering how you were doing on your weight loss and drinking ALL that water. I hope the tips I gave you helped a bit. With the long weekend coming up it's another challenge staying on track and enjoying yourself. Focus on the family and friends you are with and the activities and eat when hungry but make good choices, and drink that water! If you do fall off track a bit, guess what, drink more water - LOL!!! But it will flush out the extra fats and carbs you ate and you will be fine. You can do it. It's like "MAGIC". I was thinking about you and wondered how it was going. I love to hear about people trying to get healthy. I listen to all of you all day at the center and LOVE the show. Wouldn't tune to any other station. Take care, good luck and have a great holiday weekend.

Thanks so much Joyce, I'm hanging in. I have good days and bad but I keep trying and thanks for the reminder about the water...it is very important! I need to exercise more, that's my goal this week! Mitzi
